Preparing to Teach Online

Each module will begin with a short overview that includes a video, objectives, a list of activities, and estimated completion time for each activity. 

Before beginning this module, please read the overview which contains an introduction, module objectives, and a list of assignments/due dates. 

Download this file and submit it for the alignment map assignment. You will need excel to open and edit this file.

Note: I have not visited or tested all of these sites. Some will not be appropriate for college-age students. Many are free, but some links are broken. I've added a forum below where you can post if a site works or doesn't work.

If you have never created a video for a course, take this time to create a 1-2 minute video using Adobe Spark. I suggest creating a video about yourself that you can send to students at the start of each semester to introduce yourself to them.

Review the student evaluation for online courses. The 20-question will be shared with students at the end of your course. For this activity, demographic questions have been removed, but you can those questions in the Elaborate section of this module.

All online course are reviewed by the instructional designer at the end of the semester. Strengths and recommendations are cited based on the Quality Matters standards. Before teaching online again, faculty are required to meet with the instructional designer to debrief student evaluation data and course recommendations.

You have the option to include online student evaluation and online course review data in your tenure packet.
