Egg assignment
Not published to studentsCurrentWatch this video and read this BEFORE attempting your photos this week.
Note: your egg must be present in every shot. All photos (with the exception of the first one) must be shot during daylight.
Take good care of your egg as if it is a $10,000 camera. You will not be able to check out equipment next week unless you return the egg to Professor Corna intact.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSSOZxLnNyc&t=93s
AND
BE SURE TO TAKE ALL PHOTOS HORIZONTALLY!!!

Final Project Screenplay OR Documentary Treatment due
Not published to studentsCurrentBE SURE TO UPLOAD THE SYNOPSIS AND THE SCREENPLAYNOTE: Be sure to write the synopsis BEFORE you write the screenplay. The fiction synopsis and screenplay CAN be based on a true story.
also note:
First, you must write single spaced 1 page synopsis exported as a .pdf. Does not have to be written in Final Draft. This is a synopsis for a short film that can be shot in the Birmingham/Jefferson County area. It is highly encouraged that films be shot off campus (with the exception of driving shots and very specific locations like a basketball court, football locker room etc....no filming in dorm rooms). Do not think of this as a feature. Think of it as a short film. You can tell any story that you want. Any genre. Avoid cliche'. Read Ch 1 for help.
The synopsis should include the following elements:
Act 1 - Setup (Be sure to clearly show where this starts and ends)
Act 2 - Confrontation (Be sure to clearly show where this starts and ends)
Act 3 - Resolution (Be sure to clearly show where this starts and be sure that your story has a satisfying ending. Know your ending before you start writing)
World/Location/Period
Inciting Incident
Protagonist
Antagonist
Plant and Payoff
The screenplay should be 5 pages long, written in final draft (available on 10 computers in the mac lab 24/7...also available as a free student trial (visit finaldraft.com), exported as a .pdf and uploaded to Moodle.
IMPORTANT SCREENPLAY NOTES:
Act 1
25% of story. Audience must know the genre within the first few pages. Set up - something starts to happen. Usually introduce protagonist first. Introduce other characters. Create the world of the story (as well as your take on it) -what are the rules? -what is emphasized? -doesn't have to be realistic. Has to be believable. Introduce antagonist. Set up a conflict at the end of the first act. Set up the stakes. Why is it worth it to go after the goal? What is the decision that must be made in order for the protagonist to go after his/her goal? The Inciting Incident - takes the character in another direction. Know what your character wants. At the end of the first act, the protagonist knows that they must confront antagonist.
Act 2
Two thirds of the story. Confrontation. Throw obstacles in the face of your character. Protagonist must make choices to pursue goal -these choices must escalate
Act 3
Fulfills the promise of the set up while still maintaining the concept of surprise. Inevitable but surprising. Climax - final beat. Audience must believe that the character has changed. Denumont - aftermath.
DOCUMENTARY TREATMENT:
Write a 4 page single-space treatment to include 2 pages worth of text and 2 pages worth of visuals/pictures (exported as a .pdf) about a documentary subject that you might like to shoot in this class. Intermix the visuals throughout and label them clearly (don't just dump 2 pages of pictures at the end). Preferably within a 30 mile drive (TMZ) from Birmingham.
The 2 most important things to discuss in the treatment are the following:
1) Why should I (the viewer) care?
2) Do you have confirmed ACCESS to your subject (explain)
Be creative when writing this treatment. Imagine scenes that you might want to shoot (even though you may never shoot them).
