Course Description
Spanish 280 is a developmental reading course designed to teach students appropriate strategies for reading original texts in Spanish, as well as opportunities to read, understand, and analyze short stories, poems, novels, and journalistic texts. Spanish 280 is designed to prepare students for the reading demands of 300- and 400- level courses in Spanish and Spanish American literatures and cultures. Level of reading proficiency actually achieved by individual students will depend upon the learner's motivation, previous experience, and degree of engagement in course activities.
a) Become familiar with specific reading strategies with
which to approach a text in Spanish b) Learn how to apply these strategies to a variety of
texts (both literary and non-literary) c) Increase active vocabulary in Spanish d) Solidify the command of grammatical structures e) Feel significantly more self-confident when expressing
themselves in Spanish f) Enjoy reading in the target language g) Learn more about the various Hispanic cultures through
authentic literary works from Latin America and SpainLEARNING OUTCOMES & Course Objectives
