Class
Attendance, Participation & Preparation (75
points or 7.5% or about 3 points per 25 class sessions)
All students are expected to be full
participants in all daily classroom activities that include reading activities,
debates, role-play, videos, singing, pair and group work. Students will receive
a daily participation grade. Each class session is
worth three points approximately. As a minimum each
student must come to class prepared to review, ask and answer questions on the
material assigned for the day. Students must
prepare for class by completing all assignments in advance and be ready to
participate in all class activities and discussions. All chapters of the textbook are to be read
and reviewed completely PRIOR to
coming to class the day that chapter is discussed. The majority of class time
will be focused on using the language and practice. Since the class format
depends on students coming to class already having prepared the lesson, class
participation grades will be geared heavily toward a student’s preparedness for
class. It is crucial that students complete all of their reading assignments
by the due date indicated on the Programa, prior to class. These assignments
will become the “focus” of discussions during class.
Class
participation, preparation and attendance are CRUCIAL given the conversational
nature of the course. Students should
take at least 1.5 hours to prepare each class session. They will
be graded, among other things, on the following factors:
·
Completion of
homework assignments by the due date: conducting readings, studying, recording
video quizzes, writing compositions, completing a variety of textbook exercises
among others.
·
Constant use of
Spanish in the classroom
·
Volunteering to
answer and ask questions
·
Positive
contributions to the class
·
Regular use of
new vocabulary
·
Grammatically and
phonetically correct answers
·
Progress in the
“skill of communication”
·
Attendance
·
Alertness
