After watching the Cahaba River Preparation Video and completing the readings above, I want you to write a brief, 1-2 page response to the following questions. Submit them here on Moodle by Thursday, October 8th at 11:59 pm.

  1. What makes the Cahaba unique? What specific characteristics about the Cahaba add to its distinctiveness?
  2. Refer to the biomonitoring data we collected last year and explain the levels of biodiversity in the Cahaba (or lack thereof). What do the species indicate about the health of the Cahaba? What are three primary threats to the Cahaba? Pick one that you think is the most critical and explain why.
  3. Reflect on what you knew or learned about the Cahaba. Do you think people in Birmingham appreciate the Cahaba? Why or why not? What do you think needs to happen for there to be an increase in appreciation and conservation of the Cahaba and its species?
