22SP: EC202: Microeconomics

PS 1

Completion requirements
Opened: Thursday, 10 February 2022, 12:00 AM
Due: Wednesday, 23 February 2022, 11:00 AM

Overview

Find some current event and show how the event alters some choice using marginal analysis. The event cannot be about inflation.

Detailed instructions

Draw out MC and MB curves for a choice related to the event and explain why you drew them how you did. Identify how the event changes the MC and/or MB curve(s), show the effect on your graph, and describe the effect on the choice.

Advice on finding an example

Almost anything will work, but it must be something that actually happened (not a hypothetical scenario). Listen to or read some news and pick some story that interests you. “News” is very broad and could include celebrity gossip, sports, or changes to rules in a multiplayer video game.

Do not go looking for news or events that seem related to economics. Students who do this almost always do worse on these assignments as a result. They usually report what an article said about an event (because the article seems economicsy) rather than doing the analysis the assignment asks for. Economics is not a set of topics; it is a way of explaining choices.
