Adapted from Ahlquist, J. (2017). Digital student leadership development. New Directions for Student Leadership, 153, pp. 47-62. DOI: 10.1002/yd.20229
In this assignment, you will take a look at your digital identity across multiple platforms.
Read the instructions carefully:
Step 1:
Create an Excel document, (or Word document) listing every social media platform with which you have an account.
1.1 Note any privacy settings.
1.2 Describe what you enjoy or dislike about each platform.
1.3 Note how often you use this account (e.g., daily, weekly, occasionally, rarely, inactive).
1.4 Taking an outsider’s perspective of your pages:
· What are the themes of your posts?
· Do you complain or post praise for others?
· Do you post pictures from parties or engaging life adventures?
· Do you post memes or quotes that reflect your values or positions?
- How are your posts showing your authenticity?
Step 2:
Google yourself. Review the top 20 results. If nothing comes up, search again, but add in the name of your hometown, college, student organization, etc.
2.1 Clean up anything that is false or negative. See “How to remove your personal information from Google” in the resources below.
2.2 Write a 200-word paragraph reflecting on the activity, the results, and your reaction to what you found.
