Hello class,
I'm so excited to start our Eterm semester together on the Global Perspectives of Infectious Disease! I have some important things I wanted to mention first:
1. We will NOT be meeting tomorrow, Friday, 1/3/2020. Our
class time is Mondays thru Thursdays from 9 am to 12 pm. So, our first
day will be Monday, January 6th, 2020.
2. That being said, on Monday, January 6th we all need to be ready to "hit the ground running!" I will expect you to have a copy of our book, Spillover by David Quammen, in hand. It can be the paperback if you choose. You can purchase it at the BSC bookstore, online at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and many other websites. I have ordered two copies for our BSC library for those who may not have the funds to purchase the book (should be about $20). However, this may be a book you want to keep and highlight/make notes in!
3. I am requesting that you have Chapter 1 read by the time we meet in class on Monday. This way, you will be on track to complete the first quiz on Ch. 1, 2 and 3 by the end of the week.
4. Take a look at our Moodle classroom when you get a minute. It is set up and open to you now. Please look at our syllabus posted in our Moodle classroom.
5. First year students, you have a mandatory Eterm meeting tomorrow, Friday (01/03/2020) from 5 to 6 pm in Munger auditorium. They will be covering some important topics regarding Eterm.
6. Finally, please make a note that our last week of class will be devoted to Presentations. A significant portion of your presentation grade will be participation. That means, you will need to be in class every day that last week if you want full credit for your presentation grade.
Please contact me by email at: klrigdon@bsc.edu if you have any questions or concerns. Otherwise, I will see you Monday morning at 9 am in the Stephens Science Center, 3rd floor, in room 302.
Happy New Year,
Dr. Rigdon
