Hi everyone!

My name is Abbey Bice. Everyone is welcome to call me Abbey. Some friends in the class are probably familiar with calling me Bice which is perfectly fine as well. I am a Junior Collaborative Education major and after graduation I hope to find a job in an elementary school as soon as possible. I’m really excited to jump straight in the field after I’m done with school. I am from a town right outside of Birmingham called Adamsville. I went to Sumiton Christian High School over in Sumiton, Alabama. There I played basketball, softball and volleyball and loved being involved with several different student organizations.

One little fact I love to share is that this past October my brother and sister-in-law brought my beautiful new baby niece into the world! Her name is Landyn Grace and she is a beautiful chubby princess.

In this class, I would like to learn more about the importance and history of different diseases. I feel as though I will enjoy digging into the specifics of these viral diseases. I have always been interested in these types of science topics. I am excited to get started and read the text for the class.

Lastly, if money and time were no object, I think I would like to go to Africa for a vacation. I love zoos and safaris and I think I would have an amazing time being able to adventure through Africa and see animals and the different terrain. More typically, I could spend a lot of money and time at Disney World if given the chance and in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. My family spent a week or two of every summer for the first 14 years of my life in Gatlinburg. So, I would love to go up there and visit a place that I have enjoyed for so long. Disney is just something I love and is a place I would always have a great time.

Hey Abbey!!! I am so excited we get to be in another class together. I think to be able to dabble in some different areas of the curriculum is both interesting and extremely beneficial. As an elementary educator, it is important to have a wide background on all subjects. This next semester we will be in Teaching Science and I think we will have the chance to connect things we learn in this class to that class as well. I also find it fascinating the information about vaccination and children in schools. I think we might have the chance to get more insight on this topic. I hope we have the chance to bring some of our knowledge to this class as well as get a lot from this class!

Hey friends! I actually wrote a paper on vaccinating children for one of my English classes, and it was a really interesting to look at both sides of this argument. The vaccination topic is kind of a touchy subject, especially when it pertains to children, but I am looking forward to learning more about how diseases spread without vaccines. I feel as though there is a lot of misconceptions when it comes to vaccines. I hope that we are able to take some information away from this class and use it in our career as educators. I am really looking forward to having this class with you guys!!

Hey Abbey! I really enjoyed reading your introduction! I am excited that we have this class together as well as many of our education classes! I am super excited that we get to learn something new that we don't ever talk about being an education major. I think our minds are going to be blown about so many things taught in this class! One reason I wanted to reply to your response was that I have actually been to Africa and gone on a safari trip. This time last year, I was on a plane headed to Uganda. It took us 52 hours to get there because of some issues but we made it and it was the best thing I have ever done! I went to Uganda with the education department where we went to teach English to students K-5. I spent three weeks teaching 5th graders English! Although it was not easy, I did it and learned so much about myself and myself as a future teacher! The first few days we were there, we went on a safari where we saw giraffes, elephants, and animals native to that area. We were so close to them and I have some super cool pictures. This was one of my favorite parts of the trip! I had never seen anything like it and it was incredible! If you ever get the chance to go to Africa or Uganda, take the opportunity because you won't regret it! I also love Disney World! My family surprised me and my siblings with a trip to Disney one spring break and it was a vacation that I will always remember! My favorite ride is definitely the Buzz Lightyear one! Anyway, I am glad we get to learn about this topic together and can't wait to be in many more classes with you as we finish out our four years!
