My name is Luke Sligh. I am from Marietta, Georgia which is a suburb in west metro Atlanta. I am majoring in Biology and I hope to also earn a distinction in leadership studies. My future career plans are up in the air at the moment because there are several areas that I could see myself working in. I am very interested in law and public health, so ideally, I could incorporate those in my future. The idea of patent law is intriguing, and this is the direction I’m slowly leaning. In this class I hope I can build on what I've learned in Organismal and Cell & molecular biology, to better understand the way that the human genome fits into these fields. I am also very interested in genetic disorders and how they are being treated. My interesting fact is that my dad and I were both born on December 29, I was supposed to be born on Christmas day and was four days late, so I was born while my family threw my dad a birthday party at the hospital. Lastly, if money were no object for a dream vacation I would go snowboarding in the Swiss Alps. I grew up snowboarding on the East Coast of the United States and throughout high school I was lucky enough to take several trips to Colorado and Utah. Snowboarding and being in the mountains have always been big parts of my life, and people have told me that skiing in the Alps is a completely different and unique experience.

Hey Luke! Wow, that is so awesome that you are interested in law and public health. That is so funny that you and your dad share a birthday. My sister and my mom actually share a birthday as well. Their birthday is September 10th. I almost put Switzerland as the place I would travel to if I could because it has been a place I have been wanting to visit a lot recently. I love snow skiing, and although I haven't been in a couple years I think it would be such an amazing experience skiing there. The mountains just look beautiful in the pictures I've seen, but I know the pictures probably don't even do them justice.
