Hi guys, my name is Jonah Dennis and I am a freshman undecided but likely biology major. I was born in Pensacola, Florida where I lived for the first three years of my life but grew up in Forsyth County Georgia until sixth grade and have lived about an hour east of Cincinnati for going on seven years now but in total I have moved five times over my life due to my Dad’s job working in occupational rehab for veterans. I would like to be a practicing doctor of tropical medicine and that’s why I chose this class as equatorial diseases and viruses really interest me and I wish to learn more on their genetic variations. I hope to learn from this class more on the prevalence of diseases not commonly found in the US and other first world countries and how cultural perceptions of illnesses shape the local medical and sociological practices. My favorite movie is Audrey Hepburn’s A Nun’s Story because she serves as a nurse in the Congo where she deals with and fights her own infection with Malaria. My hobbies include skydiving, free climbing, whitewater rafting and kayaking. If money and time were not a factor I would choose to go backpacking around central and south America learning about the different biomes and life in those locations I’ve always been interested in ancient societies and how they dealed with illness so my adventures would likely center around the Mesoamerican and south American societies’ ruins .
Hey Jonah! I think it’s pretty cool to have lived in so many places, if you love traveling it’s like you already got a head start! I haven’t seen ‘A Nun’s Story’ but I’ll definitely put it on my list of movies to watch. It’s super cool that you enjoy skydiving, free climbing, whitewater rafting, and kayaking. I love being outdoors and all of those things (minus the free climbing!) are on my bucket list. In addition, backpacking around Central and South America seems like a bunch of fun as well as a good bit of learning about the areas you’ll be in. I hope you enjoy it!

Hey Morgan,
It is nice to have a class with someone who does not think i’m absolutely insane for enjoying the same outdoor activities for the most part as me. Almost all Audrey Hepburn movies are really good that’s just my personal favorite. Moving is a lot of work but it’s nice to be able to get fresh starts and see all sorts of different places here in our own country before I decide to go abroad. Also if you have not skydived yet I totally recommend it it’s such an adrenaline rush and honestly not that dangerous compared to other outdoor hobbies. I hope you enjoy your eterm.
