Hey everybody!

My name is Cassidy Dickson. I am from Greenville, South Carolina. It is about five hours away from Birmingham. I really love to travel and have new experiences so it is nice to be able to do that in Birmingham, although I do miss my family a lot because we are so close.

My major here at BSC is a biology major on the pre-med track. I know I want to go to med school after getting my undergraduate, but I am really undecided on what field of medicine I would like to go into.

Something I am excited to learn from this class is to know more about all the diseases to have a better knowledge of them and to also learn how a virus or disease can just show up out of the blue and go away like it was not even there.

A neat fact about myself is that I am allergic to gluten. It is actually interesting because just how to viruses just started having randomly, I became allergic to gluten in the sixth grade. So, it happened very randomly and out of the blue. It is definitely genetic because my mom has it as well as her siblings and my older sister. Another fact about myself is that I have a golden retriever back home who I love so much!

Lastly, if money and time were no object I would travel to Bora Bora. I want to go their because pictures of the island look so beautiful. The ocean is so blue and they have little huts right above the water which I think would be super cool to stay in.

How have you adjusted to life without gluten? Being diagnosed in the six grades seems to be difficult being how majority of public schools have one or two meal options daily majority of them not being gluten free as well as having other allergens. So I imagine it would have been hard to find gluten free meals as a child. What would you say was the hardest foods to give up and was it for taste reasons or availability? I personally wouldn't want to go without pasta.
