Hi everyone, I'm Aastha, and my nickname is Ash. I am a freshman here at BSC, and I plan to major in Biology and maybe in Computer Science too. I am a Biology nerd, and I love to code. With biology in mind, I would like to become a Nurse Practioner, and Computer Science is something I am curious to learn. I have been learning about it since grade 5, and I have been looking to merge both the fields to find what I want to do later in life. One reason I took this class is to see the different branches of biology, especially epidemiology, hoping to gain some insight into the uses of biology in the real world.

I am from Nepal, and I came here for my education last year. For those who don't know, my country is nestled between India and China. A big part of my country is the Himalayas, and we also have the Mt. Everest. One cool thing about my country is that we are the only country with a flag that has two triangles instead of a standard rectangle.

If money and time were not an object, I would love to travel across Japan. I have been fascinated by the culture and traditions of the Japanese. Their work ethic is something I admire too. But I would go to the rural part of Japan rather than to the bustling city of Tokyo. One of my wishes is to retire in Japan when I become old.

How close did you live to Himalayas and Mount Everest? Were you subject to the many tourists and brave mountaineers taking the dangerous tread up the mountain?

I actually lived in Kathmandu, which is the capital. It isn't that close to the Himalayas or the Mt. Everest, and to get there is a mix of trekking and flying in an airplane. The flight takes up to an hour, but the trekking can take up to 12 days, mainly so that they get acclimated to the high altitude. And yes, we usually meet a lot of tourists and mountaineers aiming to climb the Everest or other mountains because Kathmandu is the only city that has an international airport. Essentially, it is the only link to the Everest for tourists from far away countries.
