Hi, my name is Natalie Yehle. I am from Fort Wayne, Indiana. My major is health science. My future plan is that after I graduate, I am going to take a year off to focus on my applications for physical therapy graduate school. I am also going to work and get more experience in the physical therapy field during that year and send out applications.

What I want to learn from this class is about genes in cancer cells. I want to learn about how people with cancer get cancer from their genes and how some others don’t. Or what causes someone to get cancer from a certain gene and others don’t. I don’t know that much about genetics, I have taken regular biology classes, but they haven’t gone into detail about genes. I am excited to learn more.

I am a transfer junior, so this is my second semester here. I transferred from Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio which is 10 minutes from the Pennsylvania border. I am also a twin to a boy; he is a minute older than me. He plays hockey in college at Trine University in Indiana. I am also on the swim team at BSC. I swim the 200 and 100 fly and the 500 freestyle.

If money and time were no object I would probably go on a really long cruise around the Mediterranean. I would probably want to stop by Rome, Italy, Athens and Greece if one stopped at all those places. I would go on vacation their because it would be a lot of fun to see all these cool places. I haven’t been to Europe so I would want to experience their culture.

Hi Natalie! I'm Claire. Physical therapy is a really cool field; you get to spend a lot of time with your patients and watch them regain or achieve abilities that really improve their lives. Do you have a specific area that you want to work in (stroke recovery, sports physical therapy, infant mobility)? I shadowed an orthopedic physician this past week, and he said that he loved having great physical therapists because they made him look good. I also learned while volunteering at Children's that there are some physical therapists who just help babies to use their muscles and develop properly in the hospital, which sounds amazing.

That sounds like an incredible vacation! I think there's an E-term that goes to Italy, and I've heard it's really good.

I want to go into Physical Therapy too! Do you know what kind of PT you are looking to do? I interned at an outpatient clinic this January and it was one of the most amazing experiences.

Hey Natalie! I think its really cool that you transferred here from Ohio. I bet BSC is a lot warmer which is probably nice. I also thought about going into physical therapy for a while but it just wasn't for me. What made you so interested in PT? I also think that cancer cells are really interesting to study and I hope we look more into how they multiply and why they become cancerous to begin with. Not many of my biology classes went really into detail about genetics either, so I am kind of excited to learn more too.
