In the U.S. the average age of a woman getting pregnant is the highest it has ever been. According to medical news today, the average age of a woman getting pregnant with her first kid is 28 years old, in the year of 2016. This is the highest it has been in decades. And this might be due to the changing of the way life is today. More kids want to get a degree for a job so they stay in school longer and then try to start their career so they don't have time to start a family. And although being pregnant over the age of 35 can produce healthy normal babies, there can be an increase in that the child could have genetic problems.
With this being said let's see what sort of problems can be seen for both women and children when getting pregnant after the age of 35. First of all the chances of a woman losing her child goes up to at most 35% while the percentage of losing the baby under 35 is around 15%. So right off we see that getting pregnant after 35 has a significant effect on the mother and the child. Also, women have a decline in fertility because of the loss of eggs in women over time. This is also thought to lead to miscarriages as well because of the quality of the woman's egg over time.
For the baby there are many risks that are increased over time. Mostly dealing with genetics. As the mothers age increases so does the babies’ chance of having a genetic disorder for one example the probability of the baby having Down syndrome is very likely to happen. According to Medical News Today, the rate of having a kid with Down syndrome goes from 1 in 1,064 at age 25, to 1 in 240 by the age of 35. That is an 824 increase in the probability of having a kid with down syndrome, after the age of 35.
My personal beliefs about pregnancy after 35, are that it is fine to do it I would just like people to understand the problems and o risks that come with being pregnant that late. Also, if a parent is thinking about getting pregnant after the age of 35 I would like them to know how to help reduce risk and be very in touch with doctors. Me personally after this research I would like to have kids before the age of 35 just because it just worries me about how high the risks go after reaching age 35. This is what I think and believe in pregnancy after the age of 35.
