I enjoyed your response and totally agree. I have heard for years that some scientists were so excited about bringing back mammoths, but that sounded so crazy. It seemed much more reasonable once I learned more about the CRISPR/Cas9 system, but I am still wary about the notion of gene editing. I just do not think the human race is capable of wielding that kind of power. You made the comment about maybe we could get our act together about protecting the species we have rather than introducing new ones, and I think you are right. It would be interesting to see how the Mammoth hybrid could cause change by shuffling the snow and reinforcing the permafrost, but hopefully we can mitigate Climate Change through our own actons and not rely on drastic, risky measures like this.
