Everyone has different food choices and different cravings, but do their cravings come from their genetics from their parents? I always crave a sweet snack, like a granola bar or a popsicle. If I had a choice, I would choose a sweet snack over anything. Usually, there are moods that I get in that decide how sweet my snack is. Often, I have something salty with like a meal. I usually never snack on something salty. A person in my family that has almost the same food choices is my dad; he and I will always have something salty, bitter, or spicy for a meal. Then for a snack or something, we always try to find something sweet with sugar. Although one weird thing is that most of the people in my family love to drink soft drinks and caffeine. I am the complete opposite over the years I have disliked soft beverages more and more and have just liked to drink things like water tea and Powerade.

If it is possible that cravings are inherent and biological, I will be changing somethings in my diet. I do think that there are somethings that you pick up from your parent's craving wise, and I think it is crazy that it could be linked to the gut microbiome. It makes sense to me why you have the same cravings as you do to your family.

Finally, I think it is fascinating how drinking alcohol can cause drug and addiction memory in the brain and how it can affect the DNA. I think it is cool that we found out that acetate made from the liver breaking down alcohol and travel through the blood to the brain and promote addiction memory. I think that it is cool that if they find a way to block the acetate in DNA, they can fight alcoholism and help people with horrible addictions.

Hey Slade. I like your choice in snacks, sweets are always the best in my opinion. From reading a lot of the other forums, its interesting to me how peoples moods tend to influence what they want to eat. It's interesting how you don't like soft drinks because with my family that's been an impact on me. My dad loves Diet Coke, and over the years I've come to like them as well and it's one of my favorite soft drinks. I really like your last points, because I know a lot of families that struggle with alcoholism and that would be awesome if they can learn to control the acetate in the DNA. That would help a lot of families overcome the struggles of their addiction and come out better on the other end.
