I think that Jiankui knew that these experiments were very unethical. But I do believe that he went through with his experiments to try and make a change in the world even though it was very unethical. I think that he meant to do this not to be cruel, and just for the cause of science, I think he went through to try and make a change in the world for the better. I feel like he cared about the problem and wanted to make the world a better place even if his reputation as a scientist is ruined.
In my opinion about what should happen about this situation is that the research should be studied very well and should be considered if it can help with curing HIV. I think that if this does work, then I believe that the government should only use this as a stepping stone in the right direction about how to monitor experiments. Also, I think that if the parents are okay with how the experiment went, then there should be no charges pressed against Jiankui.
Compared to this, there have been worse experiments that have gone against the ethical law of scientific experiments. The main ones that I know about being Nazi experiments during World War II. What makes this different from those experiments is that those experiments the scientists did not care about the patients. They truly did this research for science and to try and not make the world a better place, although they are similar in ways, like both experiments went against the ethical code of experimenting.
This type of experiment would make citizens not to want to trust scientific work. They do not wish to believe in scientific tests and facilities, especially those in China. But, I do think that in today’s society that even though this happened, they should look at the good that this experiment could do in the world and still trust these facilities and that they are doing what they do to help the world and not to hurt people.
