Nociceptin belongs to the family of opioid neurotransmitters. Nociceptin system is an peptide that is found in brain, immune, vascular, endothelial cells. It also controls the sensation of pain . Chronic pain is simply any pain which last more than 12 weeks. People always thought pain meant or came from damage, that is not all true. I know a lot of people who deals with chronic pains of some kind such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, tendonitis, etc. They all affect the joints and tendons. They also all cause inflammation and excruciating pain. Many people dal with chronic pain with getting either drunk or high or even both. People who smoke marijuana so it can "stop" the pain for a few hours.  Also some people uses drinking as a coping mechanism to "numb the pain". I know some people who uses different strategies to cope with chronic pain such as sleeping, running, therapies, and most importantly food. The way people chose to deal with there problems with chronic pain, can lead to future problems, physically and mentally. One healthy method of dealing with chronic pain is deep breathing and meditation because it cause your body to relax. Endorphins can be released by exercising, which is another healthy method.  Also joining a support group can help find solutions to chronic pains. In the Ted Talk by Joshua Pate, he discussed the topic of gene therapy. I wasnt sure on which gene to talk about , so I just chose Preproenkephalin, which is located in the amygdala and deals with inflammatory pain. Opioids is the most common drugs used in pain sensation in the amygdala. There are a lot of unknown and known factors can effect how we perceive or deal with pain.
