A year of travel with no restrictions would be amazing, especially after this crazy quarantine. It is hard to imagine a type of job or a career that would sustain this kind of lifestyle if you didn’t already have a few connections. I think if I were to travel for a year, I would find a way to be a virtual tutor.  This seems like a great way to provide a service on the go. I could easily hold video conference tutoring sessions from any Air bnb on the planet and charge a flat fee per session. This probably wouldn’t bring in too much money, but I could still pick up odd jobs around the cities I visit. I would definitely want to visit Sydney, Australia; Monteverde, Costa Rica (I’ve been here and want to go back to the cloud forests); Seattle, Washington; Bora Bora, French Polynesia; Yellowstone National Park (technically in three states, but it’s still on my list); Amsterdam, Netherlands; Florence, Italy; Santorini, Greece; Sausalito, California; and Cape Town South, Africa. I think this experience would definitely have the potential to change your life, as long as you are open and willing to let it. I know that I would enjoy an experience like this, and I know that I want to travel as much as possible when I am older. Having the chance to immerse yourself in other cultures can really change your outlook on life. People outside of the United States don’t have the same luxuries that we take advantage of every day, and they don’t even mind. I went on the Costa Rica E-term trip in 2019 and it was an amazing opportunity to travel beyond the confines of the US. I went for two weeks without a hot shower or cell phone service, and I think that was the most rested and rejuvenated I had felt in a long time. I hope to have the opportunity to travel again as soon as it is safe.

Hey Molly,
I think it is a great idea to be a tutor. It would be a good way to make money, but also a good way to help people while enjoying yourself. I said I wanted to be a travel nurse and help those who don't have access to health care like we do. I think if you were a tutor you could help those who don't have access to education like we do. It would be a great opportunity to learn about other cultures while teaching the knowledge that you have. That is so cool that you went to Costa Rica and got to kind of disconnect form the internet. I think we all need that sometimes.

Hey Molly! Being a virtual tutor is a great idea, I never even thought about that. I was trying to come up with ways to have an person job but logistically it really does not make sense because it is extremely unlikely that anywhere would hire you and pay you for only a week. Remote jobs are a great idea. I think this pandemic has really changed people's, especially company's, perspectives on jobs from remote locations. Prior to this many companies did not think people could work from home but this has changed opinions on that. So I think getting a remote job would be considerably easier because of this pandemic situation than it would have ever been before this. Odd jobs are another fun idea. Maybe even if you are really talented you could sing on the streets for some extra cash!

Hey, Molly! I think your idea about virtually tutoring is a very smart way to support yourself while traveling. Many of the jobs that we are working towards right now would not support this type of lifestyle. I loved some of the places you mentioned visiting! I have also been to Costa Rica before, but I included it on my list of places I’d like to go. I loved the culture, the food, and the places! I agree with you that immersing yourself in different cultures can be extremely lifechanging. However, I think I would rather stay in one place for a longer period of time than going to lots of places for a week at a time.
