I have seen that many people have already discussed the theme of women/gender roles in the Ramayana. I think that this is a huge topic. I mentioned in an earlier post that the Bible doesn't portray women as much as in the Ramayana. Also, the women usually aren't of the best character. Like the Adam and Eve story. Eve is portrayed as deviant and almost ignorant. In the Ramayana, women have bad AND good characteristics. I wonder how this impacts the women who read the Ramayana. Somewhat like what Cole was talking about. I wonder if women who read the Bible think less of themselves because of how women are portrayed? I think that this would be very interesting to know. A deeper question would be how do Christian women think of themselves compared to Hindi women? (I think that's correct terminology).
