Pleistocene Parkwiki touches on all aspects of the park: the key concepts of the park, inventors, animals that could possibly be put into the park, ecosystem benefits. Pleistocene park is a nature reserve in northeastern Siberia where they are trying to recreate the “northern subarctic steppe grassland system” during the last glacial period. Sergey Zimov is the founder and brains behind the park, he explains the mainstream explanation for the ecosystem disappearing in the glacial period and then also shares his reason and how he can try and make a replica of the steppe grassland system from 15,000 years ago to present day.

This source went to more in depth as to the ecosystem in the last glacial period. It talked about the different predators: cave lions and wolves, and how the mammoth's (woolly rhinoceroses, bison, horses, reindeer, musk oxen and much more) lived together. It also mentioned on how the grazers maintained the grassland areas. When the grazers left the grass didn’t grow leaving the soil fertility to decline, producing shrubs. The shrubs don’t need a lot of nutrients from the soil so that’s how the shrubs were able to flourish. Lastly, they believed that if the grazers are introduced into the park and created the same type of ecosystem that includes the soil fertility to increase causing grass to grow, that they will be one step closer to getting the steppe grassland ecosystem from 15,000 years ago.

Watching this documentary gave me a whole new perspective on Pleistocene park. It gave an inside look about the park and the inventor, Sergey Zimov. Zimov is unbelievably brilliant in how he can see a problem and then have a solution that then fixes other issues as wellHe talked a lot about his life and his passion about what he does. It explained more about how the park works regarding how it affects the ecosystem and global warming with the greenhouse gasses. Also, on how the park doesn’t need humans anymore, just more animals and more land to somewhat imitate the last glacial period.
