If there is the belief that the Ramayana is based on a true story there will not be one singular telling of the story, rather, there will be a variety of tellings that will each be impacted by the individual experiences of the person reading, telling, or listening to the story (115). The various versions of the story will then of course rely on an individuals' schema and experiences to affect how they interpret the story for themselves. It's only natural that we will read the story based on our economic positions. If you are from a lower caste you will read the story in a way that benefits the lower caste and vice versa.

Olivia, great thoughts. I agree that one's caste has a very strong influence on how they interpret the Ramayana. I like your mention of reading the story based on one's economic position, as we can even see that in other cultures in interpretations of other religious texts and stories as well.

I think this is great Olivia! I think it's important to look at how the castes affect the individual and the issues it creates for most people.
