Crash course videos never offer a full evaluation of whatever the chosen topic is. The time limit allowed per video is simply not enough time. Nevertheless, the Ramayana video still falls short. I do understand that they are primarily focusing on the text alone. But to not have background information on the religious and cultural tradition surrounding it.
Also, the video is in a "Heroes and Heroism" category. To some extent that categorization of the story misrepresentation of Rama, in my opinion. Is Rama really a hero? He does what he has to do. Is he really going to let some other guy steal his wife? I think a hero goes above and beyond. As we have discussed Rama is a complex character. The video defines Rama as heroic because he succeeds in being the faithful and dutiful son. As well as a loving husband. At the end of the video they acknowledge Sita's heroic attributes. Not nearly to the extent that they focus on Rama.
Also, Rama isn't blue, yet they say he is. That problem with the video suggests that they were not fully aware of what they were presenting.
