Original: As Origen aged, so did his writing. Along with this, his tone changed which Watson identified as a paradigm shift. Origen’s preference changed to a deeper spiritual and theological truth “that respects irreducible pluriformity intrinsic to the fourfold Gospel” (2017, 142). Origen’s original paradigm was represented through modern interpretations and solutions, various Gospel summaries, and investigating the historical Jesus. Watson’s beliefs and Origen’s pivot to a different belief exemplify just two instances in which a sole entity’s belief can change. So, not only are there different interpreters, writers, scholars, and theologians, there are different beliefs in a single person’s head as well that are subject to change at any time. Origen’s shift especially proves that no perception of the Gospels is completely accurate and the Gospels themselves are quite fluid. Just as water can change into a gas or a solid, biblical interpretations can bend and move to fit to anyone’s personal theology.
Revised: As Origen aged, so did his writing. Along with this, his tone changed which Watson identified as a paradigm shift. Origen’s preference changed to a deeper spiritual and theological truth “that respects irreducible pluriformity intrinsic to the fourfold Gospel” (2017, 142). The initial paradigm of Origin conveyed his belief in modern interpretations and solutions, various Gospel summaries, and investigating the historical Jesus. Watson’s beliefs and Origen’s pivot to a different belief exemplify just two instances in which a sole entity’s belief can change. Not only did different beliefs and theologies come into the equation but also a sole person’s way of thinking and believing can change, which further complicates things. It’s already hard enough for us to keep up with the evolving authors without Origen changing course. And if a highly revered theologian changed his views, imagine how many people since have done the same thing. Origen’s shift shows us that no interpretation of a religious text will be permanent for all, proving The Bible’s fluidity. Just as water can change into a gas or a solid, biblical interpretations can bend and move to fit to anyone’s personal theology.
For this revision, I felt like it was not only much easier to write but easier to read and understand (hopefully). I ran it through the Writer’s Diet test and my “be-verbs” category decreased exponentially. I just feel like it’s a better paragraph overall.
