The Hospitallers were a rival order to the Templars, but nothing was ever in vain. Even the Grand Master of the Templars declared that there had been no bad blood between the two orders, and the rivalry had been healthy

The Hospitallers were a rival order to the Templars. The Hospitallers focused on the Holy Land and its' pilgrims like the Templars, however they cared for the sick and wounded, as well as having a military presence. The Grandmaster, or leader of the Templars, said that their rivalry had not caused anything harmful, in fact it had been healthy for both the Templars and Hospitallers.
