I had an experience with a campus cat last year that harkens to this paper experience. I love animals..a lot..especially the ones I seem to be most allergic too. One lovely campus cat came scurrying up to me last fall and was very cuddly--who am I to deny kitty cuddles when they wander so willingly into my midst? I endeavored to play with the cute creature, only to discover several hours later that I had been devoured by fleas.
I love writing, my paper is much like this kitty encounter. I love dance, and studying Christianity; the opportunity seems to wander so willingly into my hands to analyze their relationship. I got to play around with dance history and bring in my knowledge about the Catholic Church. In engaging with these threads of history it was difficult discovering all the reasons why dance was not accepted in Christianity, historically. Much like the flees the hard and itchy parts came in structuring the argument...I just wanted to play, not nurse the itchy intellectual implications of engaging with topics dear to me.
Have I learned anything from this? Wear tall socks in the summer so that if the cats rub up against you, maybe you will be safe.
