I’ve always thought of crochet or knitting as a very relaxing activity. Seeing it be used to fight racial injustices and support other important causes was a complete contrast to this thought. Even though it can still be so relaxing, this craft can be much more than just a way to calm down. I didn’t realize this was a thing— knitting for so many important causes. I thought it was fascinating that this was one of the only skills women were taught, and yet they found a way to make sure their voices were heard even if they weren’t supposed to be. It is really cool to see that such a simple and old tradition and still hold so much power in changing the world. I haven’t really thought about crafts or creativity in this way before, but it seems like this will some I will always look at now. I have always loved crafts and I am really excited to study them in such a different way than I ever have before.
