The first idea that caught my eye was that this was a Woman driven talent to have. It was necessary to know these skills not only to catch the eye of a potential suitor but to just support your family. After reading this article, it changed my perspective on knitting. I went from thinking that it was just a simple hobby that older women take up, to seeing that it is a very empowering talent to have and it can be used in many ways. I never knew such a simple talent could be used in a rue in political eyes and gave me a whole new understanding of knitting. A big theme I noticed is that knitting can bring a community closer together. When you live in a fairly big society it is hard to find a common core group to fit in. This was a gateway to friendship for some people.
