When I think of knitting or crochet, immediately I imagine elderly ladies knitting as a hobby. But knitting and crocheting or any other craft, can definitely be used as a form of activism. I am an art major and have been exploring how art sends political statements. The articles talked about how historically knitting brought women together and provided a tool for expression, especially for women in a time when they didn’t have much. It was also used for political expression. From the “yarn bombing” article, I particularly liked artist Patricia Wallers crochet pig and rabbit pieces. The use of crochet / wool was significant to her work because it helped display the message she wanted to send to her viewers. I have no experience knitting or crocheting but now, I am looking forward to learning!
