In Knitting as Dissent, we see the continued theme of knitting as a woman’s job. Knitting never crossed my mind one time when I was younger, but it used to be a necessary teaching at a young age. A big thing that caught my eye was maybe the beginning of kitting as activism. In the 1940s, the Red Cross encouraged women to make pieces for men in the war who had suffered from severe injuries. This gesture was so meaningful and was potentially the start of using their knitting skills in a new way. With the wide variety of the different types of arts, art in activism has become very popular with the help of social media. Yarn bombing is the new graffiti.
