For my reading, I chose “Knitting as dissent: female resistance in America since the revolutionary war.” This reading was fascinating because, for some reason, I overlooked that people knit in the past due to necessity and not because they just wanted to for fun. I also read that they hosted knitting competitions to make up for the lack of goods they were obtaining from boycotting British goods. I find it intriguing that the art of knitting was such a vital part of our history when the colonists were fighting for their freedom from the British. It was really cool to see that the women were getting respect for knitting clothes and obtained the patriots' title for doing just knitting. I find it super interesting that things like the women knitting during war times were not spotlighted.
