Women's achievements outside the home and behavior that rebelled against the cultural norms in response to oppression largely overshadows stories of women who kept to their roles in the home. Through their knitting, these women enabled men to do what they wanted or needed. The article touched on how housewives and housework, in general, have been looked down upon. I think that is especially interesting since it is kind of ironic since knitting is frequently perceived as something reserved for grandmothers and not of much purpose in contemporary times. In connection with the other piece we read on the suffragettes I think this can be well illustrated. While both acts of Craftivism are admirable, I think that the suffragettes on the Suffragette Banners are more expected and admired in American society. Yet the "Knitting as Dissent" article opens this to be questioned.
