What really struck me about this reading and the idea of knitting as a way of protesting was how far back this practice actually goes. I had no idea this sort of protest stretched back all the way to the Revolutionary War, and has gained more momentum since. I also think the use of the phrase “bringing it out of its exile” in the context of the public knitting circles is very powerful and telling of the way these people chose to protest societal gender norms, while still maintaining its calming demeanors.
