Knitting as Dissent

I had never thought of knitting as a form of feminism or anti-femminism before, I more so just saw it as a past time for creative types. But after reading, I think it is really interesting to see how the perspective has changed since the American Revolution.  Knitting was then seen as a necessity to help separate the US from Britain, and was a woman's work because she could stop and start between breastfeeding and childcare easily.  Over time, women have taken knitting and used it as a way to fight men and big corporations, and they have also used it to show their support, for example the little red sweaters for soldiers who have died. In the end, I think that women taking back knitting and changing it from something that ties them to the household to something that has a voice in politics via symbolism or acts of solidarity is most definitely a form of feminism.
