I enjoyed the emphasis on building community of the readings. This showed me how craftivism is different than other means of production because it provides the opportunity to make a personal connection with the product. Knitting creates spaces that strips the unethical properties of production, which is incredibly powerful.

I had not before considered the power of the personal connection with the product we are creating for whoever the blankets go to. This blanket will consist of 30 different people’s stories; it will have the energies of our beginning knitting frustrations, our favorite takeaways from class discussions, our mastering of new skills, etc. That is a powerful product that brings more than just the physical properties of a blanket to a person. It brings a message and community, and this community do not only exist between creators, but they also extend to those who will utilize their creations.
