When you hear the words “Revolutionary Knitting”, what comes to mind? For me, it goes back to when knitting was most needed. I think of knitting during the Revolutionary War, I think of the women as spies and hiding messages in their yarn. I don’t think of knitting helmet liners for soldiers. However, the importance of knitting has withheld the test of time. What is interesting about Revolutionary Knitting, is the sheer number of people it has come to involve, the various numbers of knitting circles across the world that has come out of one political movement or was formed during a war or other conflict. The Canadians used knitting as a way to protest th G-8 movement, it was a safe and mentally challenging way for people to protest. It was also a time for men to be able to knit in a safe space,  but allow men to challenge the traditional gender roles, which is forced upon them. Men are involved in a hobby that many think of only belonging to Grannies, knitting is changing the world one stitch at a time.
