At first, I would think of yarn bombing as in which yarn would just be crocheted around a tree, but the Los Angeles Times article has opened my eyes to how yarn bombing can truly be used for activism. In this article they make the yarn bombing like graffiti, writing out Black Lives Matter onto a fence. I believe this project and how they put their spin onto yarn bombing was straight to the point and very effective with a clear message. In the Vox article, women discuss the racist prejudices they have faced in the knitting community. They talk about how white washed fiber arts is, especially present day through Instagram. Knitting is for everyone no matter race, gender, age, etc; in society we have been fed the grandma stereotype with knitting. When I thought of knitting, I even bought into that narrative for some time, but in reality, the needlework community is so much broader and diverse than that one image stereotypically portrayed.
