The common stereotype for knitters seems to be a little old white lady. However, as knitting has resurfaced in popularity, the representation of the community of knitters across the world has remained white. White models are used for marketting knitting supplies and products. The Vox article discusses the white washing of knitting on social media. I found the part about Karen Templer's blog post interesting because I could feel myself cringing as I read the quotes from her post. However, her acknowledgement of what she did wrong raised some awareness in the knitting community about white washing and racism. This was not the first instance of racism in the knitting community, but rather a viral instance that spread awareness of the issue at hand.

The CheyOnna blogpost similarly discusses how the stereotype of knitting is that it is a white woman's activity. She also discusses knitting as a non-passive form of activism like we have talked about in class. She talks about how it can bring communities together.
