For my reading I chose “The knitting community is reckoning with racism”. This article was intriguing to me because it shows that even if people are trying to be sincere, they can sometimes not articulate what they mean well, and it turns into something that can be taken as condescending and insulting. This often happens that people do not think about what they’re saying before they say it and that they’re words can be hurtful towards others. Another thing I found intriguing about this article was that the issue of whitewashing. The issue is interesting because what can happen sometimes is that the right people do not get credit for their things because of their skin color and there is a reality that anyone can be successful at knitting no matter what their physical features. Those are my thoughts from the reading!
