In the essay about cleaning up the beaches, I liked how the woman started out by picking up trash and then decided to turn it into art. By crafting she has been able to show her work at galleries and malls. These pieces start a conversation and get people talking about ocean plastic pollution. When people see the trash items in person it leaves a lasting impact and gets people thinking about their waste. Similarly, the article about knitting and climate change had the same effect. While we are told that climate change is happening and are shown with graphs and numbers, not many people can relate to this. I thought it was so fascinating that they tracked temperatures and portrayed that with knitting. When someone sees a blanket or scarf it again starts a conversation. Like the beach trash, I feel like by using crafts it stands out more than infographics and gets people talking.
