The use of names instead of numbers on the AIDS Memorial Quilt was intriguing to me. It reminded me a lot of the "say their names" m0vement this summer. By using the names of the people who died of the disease, it helps people to realize they were not just another statistic. Those people were someone's family and should be treated with respect. I did not like how people used this blanket to fuel hatred for the LGBTQ community. The comments "God hates fags" and "burn the fag blanket," really stuck out to me. That blanket was made in order for people to remember the deaths due to the aids virus, not to be criticized for the way they lived their lives. I also thought it was interesting that the Quilt was understood as being neutral in the fight against AIDS. I would think it would be a statement piece in the fight against AIDS.
