In the early 2000s the word craft was put away. It carried a negative connections such as femininity and queerness. It is associated with the poor working class. The people living with HIV is associated with the queer people, people of color, people in third world countries and poor people. But having your craftivism work shunned is not at all bad compared to living with HIV. The AIDS memorial quilt is a large public craft project that that is a visible symbol for the AIDS epidemic. A reason for protest is because companies were making enormous profits because they were raising up the prices highly for AIDS and HIV medications.
