The hand made quilts have always shown a deep investment in e whatever their cause may be, slavery, the fight against AIDS/HIV, etc. before reading this article I never really thought to look that deeply into a blanket, but now I can see that within quilts are pieces of the person or people who made it. But the many critiques of the quilt were adamant in the protesting of the garment and what it stood for. They said that god hated gay people and to burn the blanket. Even religious leaders were involved with this, which astounds me every time. One mis-translation has caused so much hate in the world. I think the quilt is a great way of saying, “I am here for you and to support you. Together we can get through this,” because blankets encompass. They surround, the soothe, and they protect, which is exactly what the gay community does die one another especially those with HIV/AIDS.
