I do not believe as someone who has grown up within the Christian church and school system that the dominant view of nature is exploitative. Within the first few books of Genesis we see that God creates Adam from nature itself, and that he gives them the responsibility to rule over the rest of nature. While this rulership does include the ability to use nature to meet their needs, the ability to rule within the Bible is always with the idea of stewardship.
When Adam and Eve misuse nature and break the rules set out to them, they are quickly punished for their actions. I believe the punishment God gives them for eating the forbidden fruit is a precedent set for the misuse of nature being a punishable offence. I think where a lot of people can go wrong and misuse nature when they are Christians is that they misunderstand our call to stewardship as a call to ownership. There is nowhere within the values themselves that call for mankind to take dominance over nature, and there is even precedents set within the Old Testament that nature deserves to be saved.
