In this article, Robin Attfield proposes that Christian's attitude toward nature is the cause of todays climate crisis. It is very interesting to think about how the idea of mankind being made in God's image creates a feeling of superiority over nature. Especially with the story of Adam and Eve where God gave Adam and Eve free reign over his garden, except for the forbidden fruit of course. It also gave humans the false idea that the whole universe revolved around them. That idea alone is enough to make people think that they are entitled to everything Earth has to offer. However, there one issue I see with this narrative of Christian attitudes effecting how they interact with nature. How did humans still feel superior to nature after God flooded the Earth and wiped out all of humanity besides everyone on Noah's ark? I feel like the mass flooding of Earth would show that humans can be at nature's mercy. However, I can agree with the article's statement about how capitalism and Christianity typically go hand in hand. There are many countries today like the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Spain that have heavy Christian ties and have economies built on capitalism. It is also important to note that the Catholic church has a history of capitalist tendencies during the time they sold indulgences to people to guarantee their place in heaven.
