In relation to the article about medieval flooding, I find it interesting that there is an acknowledgment by the medieval citizens that God is in control of the weather and there is no changing that, yet they still ban together to rebuild after the storms. One of the arguments that is prevalent today when it concerns the topic of climate change denial is that God, being the all powerful deity, has the right to strike us down and destroy the Earth, therefore we don't have to do anything to help the environment. We see that the medieval people fully believed that God was in charge of these disasters, but they used these disasters as an opportunity to rebuild and become closer as a community. I enjoy the aspect of the priest calling out the rich lady who was hoarding grain- which I think is exactly the problem with America. The people in charge are the ones that have their own interest in mind and would rather make money (or help their other rich friends) make money from this hoarding of grain/wealth than to call them out or implement legislation that would better the community as a whole. I think we need to see these natural disasters and the foreboding climate crisis as something to unite us in helping each other, rather than being divided over useless politics. No one is going to care whether you're a democrat or republican when everyone you love is dying from the disastrous outcome of climate change.
