I grew up reading Aesop's fables. It was something that I looked forward to doing everyday. And reading about how the silly little animals didn't understand the simplest things always made me feel so much smarter than them. I remember that every once in a while I would witness or be a part of a situation and say to my father "this is just like the story about the fly (or the fox or the hare, etc.)" Looking back on it now I can see how important these stories are. They teach children lessons on morals and ideals.

Now that I'm older I can see how Aesop's fables are alot like the parables in the Bible. The Two Mice reminds me of the verse about eating crumbs from the master's table. Or the story about the friend at night sharing his food with a guest. In the same way that the fable about the mice teaches children a lesson, so do these stories teach Christians and more. I do feel that it was very clever to take this fable and put it into the poetry format so that it would reach a wider audience. That way more people are willing and susceptible to learning the valuable lesson of being content with a simple, stress-free life.
