Anyte of Tegea is one of the few known female poets of the ancient world. Although much of her work has not survived the pieces that have are extremely vivid. She used these poems often as a way to memorialize people and animals alike. The ones we were assigned to read depicting different animals made the ancient world seem more relatable than I’ve ever realized. She depicts humans and animals having close bonds. Children having funerals for animals. It reminded me of the classic goldfish funeral when a child first experiences grief in the form of losing a pet. I particularly enjoyed the way she used the vivid imagery to make the audience relate in knowing the feeling of the animals waking them up or singing into the night
