Good workshop yesterday.
Here is what I’m looking for in this assignment:
Structure – 30%
Looking for a clear Plot Point 1 and Plot Point 2
And a Midpoint: an unexpected Middle in Act 2, tied to the climax
--You have a decent structure in the set up. PP1 is clear.
--The coincidence of timing is a weakness in the narrative, and it's not clear what is the climax
(is it the crash? The shooting/arrest? Or the scolding from the Chief?)
Character – 30%
Golden Rule/Dramatic Need
Character Arc
--pretty good character for a comedy. He is a little lacking in character arc. Is there a way to improve it? It could be as simple as he temporarily loses confidence in his ability to get a promotion, or he sets his sights on another job in the department rather than detective. Maybe dispatcher? Parking tickets?
Visual Writing/Description/Dialogue – 20%
Visual descriptions (and aural)
Sharp dialogue
--This works well in yours
Format – 20%
Professional format, spelling, grammar
--You need to use one of the suggested websites I sent you to write with.
--See my marks on your hard copy from the workshop to help you correct errors.
